Yesterday I could play with toys,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today I saw two dead boys<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Torn apart,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like my teddy bear,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And his broken heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday I could play <\/p>\n\n\n\n
with my friends outside,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Never thinking, what if, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had to struggle to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last night I slept <\/p>\n\n\n\n
on a cold floor <\/p>\n\n\n\n
in an underground train station,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weeping echoed, laughter missing, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
as our country\u2019s neighbor <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rains bombs down on our nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suddenly, I\u2019m afraid \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have to hide to stay alive,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No playing games anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today\u2019s game of hide and seek is not a game, it\u2019s real,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is no one I could share with, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To tell them<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the things I feel,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am still alive while so many have died or worse,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So many bodies have been left without<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The honor of kind words,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a poem or prayer or verse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Is it possible for a child, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To grow old in so brief a time, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
These eyes can\u2019t unsee, the visions can\u2019t be erased, no one can restore<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The innocent childhood once I held, in my arms as mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like my charred, armless teddy bear, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I lost my warm bed, the safety of my family, my home,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I cling to what remains of him,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
